Tasting notes: The 2013 Mueller Family Vineyards Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is dark ruby with a showy violet edge. The wine charms with a sweet and inviting nose. Aromas are complex, with juicy black currants and savory herbs, including wild mountain sage, which grows near the vineyard. Despite the firm tannins, on the palate it’s a supple wine with a compelling balance of dark fruits and fragrant French oak. As it evolves in the glass, notes of dried ripe cherries, cherry pie and soft refined tannins emerge. This wine is youthful, and very much a classic Napa Valley mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy now through 2025.

2013 Growing Season: Modest early-season and summer temperatures in another dry year in Napa Valley transitioned to sustained hot weather in late September. Cooler nights in October for the two weeks before harvest helped the fruit to retain good color and flavors.

Winemaking:  After gentle destemming, the must was cold-soaked before primary fermentation.  Following a 22-day maceration on the skins, the free-run wine was aged for 21 months in 65% new French oak barrels. 339 cases made.
